Staying Young

On Staying Young

The trend toward anti-aging is becoming more popular today due to the large number of baby boomers and early retirees. Research in longevity has created quite a stir.
Staying Young is not just about living longer, anti-aging and age reversal but more about maintaining a higher quality of life as we age.

Can we really live to be 120 years old? Or even 150 years old?
Research indicates that not only is it possible but, probable.  In 1935, the average life span in the United States was 59.7 years. In 1950 it was 68.2 years. By 1970 people lived on a average to 70.8 years. 1985 was 74.7 years. Today the average person lives to the ripe old age of 77.9 years of age.   Can we make it to 120 plus? ABSOLUTELY!
Why are we living longer? There are many reasons. Todays medical technology and research has made great strides in understanding the aging process. Although we can start the age reversal process at any age it should start at around the age of 40 or 45. I started "Staying Young" at 59. I for one have no interest in spending my "golden years" sitting in a nursing home wearing a diaper and drooling on my self! So, let's get started!

Hormones:

Melatonin: In 1997 medical research pioneers Dr. Walter Pierpaoli and Dr. William Regelson published "The Melatonin Miracle" .  After 20 years studying and researching this relatively unknown hormone their findings were amazing! I consider this a must read for anyone over 45.  Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland, a pea sized gland located behind the forehead (referred in ancient eastern philosophies as the "Third Eye."  It is considered to be THE key to a strong immune system.
As we age the Pineal Gland shrinks and produces less and less Melatonin which results in a weaker immune system. Hence, the reason most people have increased health problems as they age. Melatonin is normally sold as a sleep aid which is a side effect. A more effective sleep aid is Valerian. Melatonin is predominantly an extremely powerful anti-oxidant, helps maintain a normal Circadian Rhythm (very important) and much, much more. Melatonin is an important key to Staying Young.
I have been taking Melatonin for 8 years and recommend anyone over 45 yrs old (which is the minimum age to start) to give it serious consideration.

DHEA: Yet another very important hormone for staying young and maintaining a healthy life style.   DHEA is the most abundant hormone found in the human body and is produced from cholesterol in the Adrenal glands.   It is chemically similar to testosterone and estrogen which gives it the unique ability to convert into those hormones.  As with Melatonin it also decreases in production with age.   Therefore, it also needs to be supplemented in order to stave off the diseases associated with aging.   Research has been shown it to be effective in controlling obesity, preventing cancer, Arteriosclerosis and Diabetes.   It may also have therapeutic effects in cardiovascular disease, Multiple Sclerosis Alzheimers, Parkinsons, depression and Osteoporosis.   There are a lot of questions about dosage.  I've been taking DHEA for about 4 yrs and take 25mg every other day on the advice of my doctor with no adverse affects.  He's a pretty conservative guy so I might up the ante and take 25mg every day.

DMAE: A memory booster known to stabilize cell membranes. DMAE is often prescribed to boost cognitive function in the aged. Cell membrane degradation is considered one of the main causes of aging. It is currently being researched as a deterrent to Alzheimers. It is also being used to tread ADHD in children as well as adults. Pregnenolone is also something to consider along the same lines.

hGH: Or Human growth hormone is a simple protein produced by the pituitary gland starting in childhood and continues into old age. It was originally used to treat dwarfism in children,
Like melatonin it is produced while we sleep. hGH enters the bloodstream, travels to the liver where it is converted into "somatedin C," messenger molecules known as "growth factors" and carry the message of growth to other parts of the body.
hGH production peaks when we are in our mid twenties and, as with the other hormones we have discussed, hGH declines as we age (of course). By age 60 to 70 we produce only about 15 to 20 percent of hGH that we did in our youth. Here we go again, getting old!
Until recently the only way hGH could be administered was through injection, an expensive proposition due to the fact that it was expensive to manufacture cuz it had to be extracted from the human pituitary gland. Now there's a dream job, digging around with a pair of tweezers in the pituitary gland of cadavers! Then of course hGH had to be injected by a doctor and that ain't cheap. Cost? $1,000 a month. But fear not, help is here!

Antioxidants: A major key to staying young. Oxydation, just like rust on a rake, can damage cells and contribute to aging. Antioxidants main job is to search and destroy free radicals, molecular terrorists. Free radicals contain an odd number of electrons, making them unstable. These are real bad guys but easily controlled.

Herbs: Herbs have been used by the Chinese and certain primitave tribes in South America and Africa for over a thousand years. Some herbalists believe herbs can provide cures for virtually any ailment as well as promote longevity.
Herbs and herbal remedies are not regulated by the FDA. One must be very diligent in the use of herbs as some may not be as advertised. Being an old guy I take certain herbs for my Prostate and Colon.

Diet and Excercise It goes without saying that diet and exercise are key to maintaining good health and staying young at any age.  Most people under the age of 60 get sufficient exercise by their daily activities. As we age we tend to become somewhat more sedentary.  Activity is crucial to maintaining long term health. Ya gotta move it people!

I am not a doctor, a medical researcher or an expert in the field of anti-aging. The information on this website is a result of my own personal experiences. Eight years ago, at the age of 59, and after extensive research I began a regimented anti-aging program of my own design with very positive results and no adverse affects. At age 67 I am healthy, disease free, (not so much as a sniffle in 8 yrs) energetic, full of vitality, in good physical condition and (many would say) look younger than my age would suggest. This website is a result of my passion for the subject. Not all of the products discussed here are for everyone. Before launching such a program for yourself please consult your doctor.
Thanks for visiting my Staying Young website.
